TITLE: Waste-Wealth-World Initiative (www-initiative)
ORGANIZER: African Youth for Development Commission (AYDEC)
OBJECTIVE: To commemorate the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) 2024, AYDEC launches the Waste-Wealth-World Initiative, aiming to raise awareness, inspire action, and promote sustainable practices to reduce food waste and loss in Africa.
FOCUS AREAS:
1. Food Recovery: Recovering surplus food from farms, markets, and food establishments to redistribute to vulnerable communities.
2. Sustainable Agriculture: Promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices, reducing post-harvest losses, and encouraging circular economy approaches.
3. Community Engagement: Educating and empowering youth, women, and local communities to adopt zero-waste lifestyles and reduce food waste.
4. Policy Advocacy: Encouraging governments to implement policies and programs supporting food waste reduction, recovery, and sustainable agriculture.

The fifth International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) will be observed on the 29th of September 2024, with the theme ‘Climate Finance for Food Loss and Waste Reduction’. IDAFLW calls on public and private entities across the food system, as well as consumers, to unite in reducing food loss and waste. This effort is crucial for mitigating climate change and enhancing food security and nutrition.
